These books must somehow fit on the shelf to be seen by the right audience.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2224377501657529009.post-49501903803501991532011-08-25T08:54:49.639-06:002011-08-25T08:54:49.639-06:00Oh boy, A WRINKLE IN TIME... Actually, I'd just call it A WRINKLE IN TIME and assume my audience knew what I meant :)

And great post! Yeah, this can be a bit of an issue sometimes here in my little office. I find the cover art to be a huge help, especially when it comes down to high fantasy.

My rule? If there's a horse on it, it's high fantasy :)BBChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13750774359232145507noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2224377501657529009.post-71363906527522650112011-08-24T09:23:53.686-06:002011-08-24T09:23:53.686-06:00Lanette, How about "Fantastic Mystery"?Lanette, How about "Fantastic Mystery"?writing and living by Richard P Hugheshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03814139767151989286noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2224377501657529009.post-60310921336889758512011-08-23T21:18:45.729-06:002011-08-23T21:18:45.729-06:00A WRINKLE IN TIME is science fantasy. They do the same thing, essentially, but with different topics, though I actually enjoyed Tollbooth).

I kind of like the system of "Light" (Discworld, Dave Barry, etc) and "Heavy/Dark"(Fear Street, Garth Nix, Chris Crutcher, The Chocolate War, etc), personally.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03262225989339629381noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2224377501657529009.post-56118706927330269932011-08-23T18:47:59.048-06:002011-08-23T18:47:59.048-06:00Good question, Rick. It's possible for a genre-breaking novel to break mainstream ... but how likely is it?

Then again, with e-publishing these days, maybe it's getting easier to skirt between those genre lines.R.C. I don't think it fits neatly into a genre. Not YA/MG, but the problem can exist if you write not to fit a prescribed genre. So should we write to fit a mold, or write and find a new mold?Richard Pietershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15119243765999481889noreply@blogger.com
